14/03/08 - Quintessentially Super League
Castleford’s great win over Leeds was not wholly unpredictable (anyone who read or listened to my pre-match comments would certainly have been on), but was further indication, if one were needed, of the strength of what is now the magnificent Super League competition. The Tigers are clearly capable of mixing it when at strength, and will go to Craven Park this week in buoyant mood and not without hope of making it two on the spin.
But at this stage, even greater credit must go to Brian McDermott and the Harlequins players for their stunning start to the season. Many pundits (myself included) were predicting a season of struggle for the boys from capital city, but the shrewd McDermott was never going to worry about any of that. Sunday’s clinical nilling of the highly touted Giants was just another against-the-odds triumph.
And, as The Monkees once said, now I’m a believer. Watch the Quins stir up some trouble for the wounded Rhinos at Headingley on Friday. Handicaps in the high-teens are very much like girls of the same age – well worth getting involved with.
