22/03/08 - Well at least it didn’t rain….
Thankfully I was probably the only Hull fan who wasn’t subjected to the crazy elements yesterday, having been very well looked after by Neil, Phil and Rob (yes, I’ve fraternized with the enemy in return for a seat and a sandwich!). Most appreciated chaps, and the sooner both clubs sort out what I know is a difficult situation at boardroom level, the better.
At the height of the blizzard the exposed and isolated FC faithful were forced to turn their backs on the action on the field en-masse as the gale whipped the hailstones into their faces. Not much fun. My brother came back soaked and shivering, and I can only be thankful that my slightly frailer parents didn’t manage to get a ticket.
Rovers fans might’ve thought it funny, but, in 2008, hard pressed punters shouldn’t be asked to fork out 17 quid to see roughly nothing and run the risk of hyperthermia.
The club do have plans to develop the open ends, and if the franchise system is playing a role in accelerating the replacement of sub-standard facilities across the league then it’s achieving something worthwhile, regardless of the (hopefully now defunct) argument around promotion and relegation.
